Yuichiro Anzai was graduated from Keio University in Tokyo, and received a Ph.D. in engineering from Keio in 1974. He changed his field immediately after that to cognitive and computer sciences, and started his research career as a post-doc and then a visiting assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon University.
